Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills
I've had requests for information related to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). The TEKS provide a curriculum guide to support what students should be learning in each grade level by each content. Periodically, the TEKS are reviewed by groups of educators across the state to examine their usefulness in preparing students for the demands of college and careers that they will encounter beyond graduation. When "gaps" between the TEKS and future learning needs are identified, the TEKS are revised. Currently, each of the four "core" content areas (Math, English Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies) have each been revised once, since they were adopted in the late 1990's. In addition, Technology TEKS have been added to guide schools in how to prepare students to use technology as a tool for learning.
